چکیده

739-742* =959* -The cardiac effects obtained by the stimulation of the vagus nerve were studied in the isolated heart preparation of cats, perfused with Tyrode’s solution according to Langendorff’s technique. High cervical stimulation of the vagus produced slight or no positive inotropic and chronotropic effects in the atropiniied heart. Excitation of the thoracic portion produced intense cardiac stimulation. The cardiac stimulating effect is not influenced by supraor infranodose vagotomy. Complete cervical and upper thoracic sympathectomy abolished vagal cardiac stimulation. It is concluded that sympathetic fibers that join the vagal trunk at the lower cervical and, perhaps, upper thoracic level, are responsible for the positive chrono and inotropic effects obtained when stimulating the intact or degenerated vagus nerve.

A cardiocardiac sympathovagal reflex in the cat.

The reflex changes in single cardiac vagal efferent fibers elicited by excitation of afferent cardiac sympathetic fibers were studied in cats anesthetized with chloralose and urethane. Efferent vagal and sympathetic units were dissected from the end of a cardiac nerve cut at its junction with the right atrium. In some cases, efferent vagal units were dissected from the cervical vagus. Excitatio...

The cardiocardiac sympathetic reflex during coronary occlusion in anesthetized dogs.

Cardiac sympathetic afferent fibers activated during coronary occlusion exert an excitatory influence on sympathetic discharge to the heart in cats after spinal cord section. The significance of this cardiocardiac sympathetic reflex response during myocardial ischemia in animals with an intact neuraxis is unknown. We studied the responses of efferent cardiac sympathetic nerve activity (CSNA), a...

(laterality in sympathetic action/cardiac reactions/vasomotor nerve response/baroreceptor reflex)

In a study of autonomic reflexes it was found that some produce a generalized, bilaterally uniform response whereas others have an asymmetric or laterality of action. Recordings from vertebral nerve fibers (mainly vasoconstrictors to forelimb muscles), right and left cardiac sympathetics, and renal nerves show that baroreceptors evoke a bilaterally uniform inhibition but chemoreceptors of the c...

Influence of sympathetic nerve stimulation on ventricular function in the newborn lamb.

Cardiac responses to supramaximal electrical stimulation of postganglionic sympathetic nerve fibers were studied in 17 lambs, 10 hours to 3 days of age. In all lambs left ventricular contractility increased within 3 seconds and was unaltered by atropine, ganglionic blockade, or nerve sectioning proximal to the stimulating electrodes but was abolished by beta-receptor blockade. The responses wer...

Vagal afferent inhibition of spinothalamic cell responses to sympathetic afferents and bradykinin in the monkey.

Effects of stimulating the left thoracic vagus nerve on the responses of spinothalamic neurons to electrical stimulation of cardiopulmonary sympathetic afferent fibers and to intracardiac injections of bradykinin were determined. Experiments were performed on 39 monkeys (Macaca fascicularis) tranquilized with ketamine and anesthetized with alpha-chloralose. The 30 spinothalamic cells studied ha...
